How did TensionWise Stringing Services come about? An avid tennis player in his teenage and early adult years, TensionWise stringer Adam took a long break from the sport. At the time, classic serve-and-volley was still a common feature on the tennis landscape. Returning to the sport a number of years later, he has found the topspin-heavy baseline game is now the most common style.
A little older and wiser, Adam felt his racquet was not as forgiving for a more mature player, and decided to upgrade to something that provided a bit more free power. However, the proliferation of very stiff frames and strings in the sport caused him to suffer something he never experienced before: the dreaded tennis and golf elbow. This caused him to start researching both frames and strings, to find something that would allow him to continue to enjoy the sport he loved, without causing physical problems (at least from a racquet swinging perspective!). This research helped him conclude that even in sport, the right tool for the right job was paramount: not all racquets and/or strings are suitable for all players!
Adam believes that it is very important to understand each player, and ensure the most suitable string setup is chosen to create the best fit for their playing style. This translates to a more enjoyable playing experience and hopefully more longevity in the sport.
Questions you can expect to be asked are:
1. Do you have any current/previous injuries e.g. shoulder, tennis elbow (forearm/s), wrist, bicep etc?
2. Do you know why type of strings you presently have in your racquet?
3. Do you know what gauge (size) your strings are?
4. Do you know what tension your strings are presently strung at?
5. What style of stroke do you mainly play e.g. topspin, slice, flat?
6. What style of game do you mainly play e.g. baseline, serve-and-volley, all court etc.
7. Do you prefer more comfort/power or control?
These questions help inform the best choice for you - it is this two-way dialogue between you and your stringer that will get you the best result out on the court.
Happy hitting!
